Research Data Management Policy (Draft) - Out for Consultation

Monash University's Draft Research Data Management Policy outlines the responsibilities of the University and its researchers in the area of research data management. It is designed to be read quickly by people at many levels within the organisation and reflects the University’s commitment to complying with the Australian Code for Responsible Conduct of Research (2007).

The Policy articulates broad enduring principles that will be supported by Research Data Management Procedures. These are being developed, and will be made available on this website for consultation in the near future.

  • Intellectual Property Framework
    Outlines the principles governing the development and use of copyright and other intellectual property created at Monash University. The Intellectual Property Framework and its components cover who owns copyright and other types of intellectual property, and guidance on the commercialisation of materials created at Monash University (including research data).
  • Copyright Compliance Policy
    Sets out the terms of compliance for the use of third party copyright materials (which include research data) under commercial or statutory, licenses, permissions and other legal provisions.
  • Recordkeeping Policy
    Outlines retention and disposal schedules for University records and forms the basis for the guidelines on research data retention.
  • Procedures for Electronic Information Secure Handling and Protection
    Relate to storage, access controls (e.g. password protection), use, transmission (e.g. encryption), and removal of sensitive, critical and confidential digital data.
